We have developed comprehensive Covid-19 preventative protocols to safeguard the wellbeing of our valued guests, staff and suppliers.

To that end, we have implemented a set of industry-leading health and hygiene measures.

Herewith is a summary of the precautionary measures we have implemented.

Please note that this guide is subject to change at any stage, as South African government regulations are updated.

STAFF

  • Our skilled and dedicated staff members have been thoroughly trained to achieve the highest possible hygiene standards. They understand proper sanitation and are fully committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests.

  • All of our staff make use of the appropriate PPE in their designated work areas.

  • We limit the proximity of our staff in their respective working environments.

  • Pre-shift temperature screening has been implemented for all staff.

  • We regularly update our staff on ‘best practices’ regarding hygiene, health and Covid-19 safety.

ENTRANCE

  • Thorough sanitation and temperature check will be carried out at the entrance of The Zarafa for everyone entering the property.

  • No access will be granted to anyone not following The Zarafa’s minimum requirements around PPE.

  • All luggage is disinfected upon arrival.

  • All deliveries are disinfected upon arrival.

  • Hand sanitising stations are located throughout the property.

  • We will have spare masks available for guests.

RECEPTION

  • Guests are warmly welcomed and assisted in the reception and lounge areas and any questions pertaining to Covid-19 protocols are answered.

  • Extra care is taken at check-in and check out, with social distancing and sanitation guidelines closely followed.

CAPACITY CONTROLS & SEATING ARRANGEMENTS IN DINING AREAS

  • We have arranged our floor plan in our dining area and bar to ensure social distancing.

  • In-villa dining is available at all times.

SANITISATION ON FOOD PREPARATION

  • We have limited the number of staff on duty in our kitchen.

  • Demarcated kitchen workstations have been set up to ensure proper social distancing.

  • No buffets will be served.

  • Our suppliers’ protocols and sanitation procedures have been screened and scrutinised.

  • We now have fewer tables in our dining areas – making better use of our beautiful property.

HOUSEKEEPING PROCEDURES

  • We ensure the use of high-temperature washing for all linen and towels.

  • Additional cleaning chemicals are added to our laundry and general cleaning processes to properly sterilise all items.

  • It’s important to note that the WHO has stated that Covid-19 cannot survive in temperatures above 56 Celsius. We iron linen and steam clothing at temperatures in excess of 100 Celsius.

  • Additional disinfectant and hand sanitiser dispensers have been installed throughout the property.

  • We have limited housekeepers to designated working areas and guest preferences will be taken into account when staff allocations are made.

  • No unnecessary tangibles are placed in rooms i.e. magazines – however, these are available upon request.

  • A full turndown service is available upon request.

  • We always allow sufficient time between bookings to air and fully sanitise villas.

POOL

  • Each villa has a private pool.

  • The pool is ‘shock’ treated with chlorine after guests check out and at least 24 hours prior to new guests checking in.
